Lead Like David: Timeless Leadership for Today's Challenges

A Leadership Framework based on the Foundation

For more than two years, I’ve been leading a non‑traditional Bible study where we read Scripture slowly, thoughtfully, and with an eye toward the patterns beneath the stories. When we reached Samuel and Kings, something unexpected happened. As we moved through the life of David, the Learning Architect in me couldn’t help but notice the leadership patterns emerging from every chapter. Each story revealed a distinct trait, a posture, or a decision-making pattern that felt surprisingly relevant to the challenges leaders face today.

Open book with a pen rests on its pages, and a notebook with handwritten notes lies nearby. Bookshelves with blurred books in the background.

Somewhere in the middle of one of those sessions, the idea arrived: What if I taught a leadership class using David’s life as the framework?

I mentioned the idea to my friend Temika Younger, and when she decided to host the Lead on Fire Leadership Conference, she asked if I would be interested in presenting on the topic. I said yes — and that presentation changed everything.

Presenting Lead Like David at the conference showed me two important truths. First, people in corporate and professional spaces are far more open to holistic leadership than we often assume. And second, the conference itself sparked something in me. I left inspired, energized, and deeply aware that leadership needed a new lens — one that honored both the inner life and the practical realities of leading people, projects, and organizations.

Conference

Within a week of returning home, I found myself sketching out a new framework for life, leadership, and personal development. That framework became The Way of Alignment (TWOA) — a metaphysical and instructional architecture designed to help people understand where they are, why they’re there, and how to return to alignment in any season. Over the last three months, I’ve been fleshing it out, adding depth, structure, and language — or as we say in one of my study groups, “putting meat on the bone.”

But here’s the truth: TWOA was only born because of Lead Like David.   In many ways, Lead Like David is the older sibling — the first spark that made the larger framework possible.

Since that initial one‑hour conference presentation, Lead Like David has grown into a full 6‑week CLASS series that I’m excited to begin teaching on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. We’ll meet weekly on Zoom for 60 minutes, exploring one season of David’s life each week and the leadership traits he embodied in that moment — emotional regulation, discernment, stewardship, strategic placement, relational wisdom, accountability, and embodied leadership.

But this isn’t a devotional study or a theoretical leadership lecture. It’s a structured learning experience rooted in TWOA, built on Bloom’s Taxonomy, and designed for real transformation through application.

Each session includes:

  • a focused teaching on one season of David’s life

  • the leadership trait(s) expressed in that season

  • a modern leadership parallel

  • and an activity that moves participants into the Application phase of Bloom’s Taxonomy

Because information alone doesn’t transform people — practice does.

Spiral staircase

If you’re navigating responsibility, influence, transition, or personal growth, this series will give you a grounded, practical, and deeply human way to understand your leadership through the lens of alignment.

I would love for you to join me.
